Principles of Governance and Regulation Seminar

16 September 2004

The first of two seminars on Governance and Regulation offered a forum for debate on the principles of corporate governance and their applicability to Public Service Broadcasters; the roles and responsibilities of the governors; the ways in which the BBC connects with the public; and how the licence fee payer could relate to the BBC as a 'shareholder'. Responses to the Charter review consultation exercise and the Department’s public survey research helped shape the debate which was chaired, by Lord Burns. Speakers included members of Lord Burns' Independent Panel and guest participants drawn from the worlds of academia, media and industry more generally.
