Radio Seminar
28 October 2004
As part of the BBC Charter Review, Lord Burns (the Government’s independent advisor) chaired a number of informed seminars on aspects of the BBC’s activities, including one on BBC analogue radio. In advance of the radio seminar, the BBC provided DCMS with a wide range of information on its analogue radio services to inform this debate (further details below).
The Radio Seminar was held on 28th October between 9:00 – 17:30. The seminar consisted of a core panel including heads of BBC Radio, the Commercial Radio Companies Association (CRCA), and independent advisors; a rotating panel comprising nominated representatives from the individual BBC stations and regions, specialist industry representatives; and a small, invited audience.
The seminar looked at the future of BBC Radio and how radio fits into the delivery of the purposes of the BBC. It examined each of the national networks, the nations and regions, as well as cross cutting issues of independent production and spectrum efficiency.
