10 October 2006
Copies of the Royal Charter for the continuance of the British Broadcasting Corporation were laid in Parliament on 10 October. The Charter, which was accepted by Her Majesty The Queen in Council on 19 July and printed on vellum, was sealed on 19 September and came force on 20 September. However, for most practical purposes the new Charter will not take effect until 1 January 2007.
During the interim, certain transitional arrangements will be carried out and the current Charter will remain in force.
