Review of the BBC's Royal Charter A strong BBC, independent of government

On 2 March 2005 the Secretary of State published the Green Paper which contains ideas for the future of the BBC. It looks at many of the strengths and weaknesses of the BBC which members of the public identified in our first consultation. This publication was followed by a public consultation which closed on 31 May 2005.

On 20 July 2004 Tessa Jowell published "What you said about the BBC" which contained the main findings of our consultation and research. The results of this consultation and research was used to help us inform the policy contained in the Green Paper. The table below shows the headline findings from "What you said" and the related policy options in the Green Paper.
